1. Comedy : the film has some awesome funny characters and scenes which would tickle your funny bone. The supporting cast has done a brilliant job. It showcases the typical Big Fat Indian Wedding through two big Punjabi families, which have hilarious characters and well placed dialogues and situations.

2. Beautiful songs : the songs vary from one genre, in fact one generation to another lifetime... In the sense that the quality of songs vary drastically, at one end you have the soulful 'Saahiba' and at the other end you have 'Whats up', in between you have other variations ranging from Sufi, semi Sufi to Punjabi rock music, I.e. from 'Din Shagna Da' to 'Naughty Billo', from 'Dum Dum' to 'Bajaake Tumba'. As the film is set up in two timelines being 1919 and 2016-17, the musical variation is comendable and justified.

3. Touches the right social issues: the film showcases two extremely different timelines where everything from clothing to lifestyle to music and development varies drastically. But in both the timelines, various real issues have been highlighted well, being gender inequalities, freedom struggle, youth being unsure of marriage, youth being scared of commitment, superstitions, relationship issues etc.

4. Beautiful locations, good direction, Brilliant dialogues: the story keeps jumping from one timeline to another, so there are extremities in the environment and color tones, but both the timelines show Punjab in different lights but surely in a way that you understand how beautiful it is and how warm it's people are. The locations are beautiful and direction quality is quite good. The dialogues of the film are well curated, especially the poetry has been very well written and exhibited.

5. Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma: all these actors have already proved their talents in their past films. Watching Diljit sunk in a Punjabi character is always a treat, while Anushka Sharma and her beauty imbibed through her simplicity speaks volumes about her character's depth. Suraj Sharma has acted well like always, he's so natural that you actually believe at a point that he's Kannan in reality. Also Mehrene Kaurs debut has been surprising because she acted well in the film.

5 Reasons not to watch Phillauri :

Don't watch if:

1. You can't tolerate exaggerated scenes ( last scene especially is very unnecessarily exaggerated )

2. You are not fond of Bollywood ( coz there are lots of songs and Bollywood kind of extended scenes)

3. You don't like unreasonable film plots and endings ( ghosts meeting finally to attain 'Mukti', and exchanging news that she's pregnant post 98 years time )

4. You don't like old school love stories or historical ( coz the story is set up in the year 1919 and 2016-17, thus the romance of that era and the present has been showcased in the film )

5. You don't want to waste time and money ( if you can wait for it's hotstar or YouTube release )
